After about a two-year hiatus where he developed an Internet job search program, Sam Zeff, who directed some of the leading investigative stories ever at KCTV, is returning to TV as an executive producer at KSDK in St. Louis, sources have told Bottom Line.
His first day on the job at St. Louis’s top-rated station will be Monday (2/27), and he will also help develop the Gannett-owned station’s social media programs.
As KCTV’s Assistant News Director and Executive Producer of Special Projects Zeff delivered a series of blockbuster stories during a 5 1/2 year period from 2002 to 2007.
In fact, his stories helped make the CBS affiliate the ratings leader in KC at the 10 p.m. news slot for a brief period.
He is excited to get back into TV—and especially at KSDK.
“KSDK is a station that knows how to win, has great anchors and reporters and outstanding management,” he told Bottom Line. “The news director, Mike Shipley and the general manager, Lynn Beall (a KU grad by the way) are as good as it gets in TV and I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to work with them.”
Zeff, a 1985 University of Kansas Journalism graduate, left KCTV for a position at KTSP in the Twin Cities (where he worked with former KC reporter Steve Shaw) and was the Assistant News Director for about two years until starting JobTalkAmerica, an Internet radio show the past two years.
During his career Zeff has worked at a number of TV and radio outlets, including WTXF, WPHL and WPVI in Philadelphia and KANU in Lawrence for two years.
