The Kansas City Star's top suburb is really a part of a suburb!! In a series on "Rating the 'Burbs" the winner turned out to be "South" Overland Park, KS. That surprised many readers since "South Overland Park" is part of Overland Park, not a distinct suburb. The other half of the city, "North" Overland Park finished in 11th place. "It would be like dividing Leawood into North of 119th St. and South of 119th St.," said a Leawood resident. "It was just silly." Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach was less than pleased that the newspaper chose to divide his community into two. According to the Star Gerlach said the north and south halves of his ’burb shouldn’t be treated separately. They’re both part of one city. “We are one community. It’s a terrible idea to split it,” Gerlach said. “All cities have a makeup that’s diverse, in housing stock, in incomes, in home values. And that’s good for a community.
