The Kansas City Star continues to lose its veteran talent on an almost daily basis.
Bottom Line broke the news that the Star was cutting seven positions, not filling vacant ones and ordering a one-week furlough for most staffers.
Earlier this month 40-year veteran sportswriter Mike DeArmond announced his retirement.
And now Mary Lou Nolan, one of the most liked and respected staffers at the Star has also announced she will step down as Assistant Managing Editor, Features at the McClatchy-owned newspaper.
“In the pantheon of Star Features editors, no one on that distinguished list ranks higher than Mary Lou Nolan,” said the Star internal announcement on her impending retirement.
“For the last 14 years, she has been a visionary leader, a terrific advocate for her department and a great partner on the senior newsroom team.
“Style. Class. Creativity. Passion. Integrity. Those are just a few words you could use to describe the qualities Mary Lou brought to work every day.
“And so, it is with heavy hearts today that we announce she is retiring.”
