No reliable figures are available, but estimates are that 35-40% of KMBC’s customers are reportedly on Time Warner Cable, which took the Hearst-owned station off the air more than a week ago over a fight over fees.
That’s why the ratings for this July TV Sweeps period are almost hard to believe with KMBC still leading other Kansas City stations in key time slots throughout the day. While Time Warner is showing Hallmark programming instead of KMBC programming, the station is still winning time slots throughout the day.
On Monday (7/16) KMBC won at 4:30 a.m., 6 a.m., was second at 6 p.m. and won at the all-important 10 p.m. period with a rating of 6.5 and 11 share to easily out-distance second-place KCTV.
NBC affiliate KSHB continues to have a strong book with first place finishes at 5 and 6 p.m. and second at 6 a.m.

A/first of all, that headline of yours is somewhat misleading, implying that KMBC is leading ALL of the newscasts, when they obviously are not.
B/second of all, I think the reason why KMBC is still doing so well at 10pm is because historically speaking, ABC programming has always done better here. If that’s not the case, then KMBC simply has a newscast at 10pm that more people want to tune in to.
I wouldn’t get too crazy about 6am though either, as they only led KSHB by .3 (although granted they’ve been keeping up with WDAF fairly well, but it’s still not as good as it used to be).
