It might be a little like father, like son as Olathe Northwest graduate Zack Fisch has been honored as one of the Top 10 collegiate broadcasters in the nation.
Fisch is the son of Steve Fisch, the publisher of Kansas City Sports & Fitness magazine and host of his own sports talk show on 1510 AM Saturday mornings at 8 a.m.
A senior at St. Cloud State, Zack was ranked ninth in the country by as an All-American by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA). Syracuse University junior Bill Spaulding won the “Jim Nantz Award” as the nation’s top sports broadcaster for 2012.
Zack has called NCAA-Division I hockey for St. Cloud State University since 2008 and also serves as the Sports Director at KVSC Radio 88.1-FM. He has been the “Voice of Husky Hockey” for both the Men and Women’s team for KVSC Radio and Husky Productions TV throughout his four years in central Minnesota.
In addition, he is in his third season calling games for the Granite City Lumberjacks of the NA3HL and has called high school hockey and football games for Fox Sports North’s online “Prep Zone” coverage.
He also calls St. Cloud State baseball games and spent last summer broadcasting 70 games for the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League. Zack was named broadcaster for the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwoods League for its inaugural season in 2012.
Alex Gold, a high school classmate of Zack’s at Olathe Northwest and currently a junior at the University of Kansas, won STAA All-American honorable mention honors for 2012.
