Summary:  Michael Scott, 52, co-anchor at KCTV5 since 2004, was terminated (12/1) by the station one day after the November sweeps period ended and KCTV5 lost the top ratings spot in Kansas City to KMBC-TV9. 

    Scott was an Internet favorite before he arrived in Kansas City when he stumbled and fell on a live TV segment when a lizard jumped on him during an interview.  It is a classic:

HEARNE CHRISTOPHER BEGS  FOR GOSSIP

    The folks at KCTV5 (and other TV stations) are so tight-lipped about the Michael Scott firing that even the Kansas City Star's gossip columnist Hearne Christopher has resorted to begging Scott (12/15) for any information on his firing. 

    Note: Good luck Hearne since we can guarantee Michael has signed a non-disclosure agreement which would be voided if he talks about the situation.  He would lose considerable money by talking.

•You asked for it: The question on the mind of pretty much everybody with a penchant for TV news: What in the Sam Hill happened to KCTV news anchor Michael Scott? One minute he was surfing successful ratings; the next he was out the door without as much as an on-air goodbye kiss.

Channel 5 won’t say a word, on or off the record. That would seem to indicate the parting was personal and perhaps a less than happy. And even though Scott’s rep smacks of him being something of an old-school jokester, he seems to have been well-liked at the station by most staffers.

Michael Scott, who joined KCTV5 in September 2004 as co-anchor of the station's main news team, was reportedly terminated (12/1) by the station and escorted from the building. Further details were unavailable.

    The move came one day after the November sweeps period closed and KCTV5 was knocked from the top spot in the Kansas City market by KMBC-TV9.  Scott was originally part of a news team that helped KCTV5 move into the lead the previous five ratings books.  Prior to that KMBC had been the ratings leader for more than a decade.

    Before joining KCTV5 Scott anchored and reported at WBTV-TV in Charlotte, N.C. He spent four years at KXAS-TV, where he anchored and reported for Dallas's highest-rated morning news show.
