The November TV sweeps period—when the Nielsen ratings generated help determine the advertising rates television stations can charge-kicks off tonight and will run through Wednesday, November 21.
It is a time when stations will unveil their biggest stories of the year, including sensational investigative pieces.
There are a number of interesting questions that will be answered at TV stations in Kansas City during this key period.
* Will KMBC be able to retain its stranglehold on the ratings this time around? Popular morning anchor Diane Cho will be transitioning into a reporter position at the station while veteran Maria Antonia has left the ABC affiliate. Several other personnel have also departed the station and its long-time reputation for stability is evaporating quickly.
* KSHB will enter the sweeps period without a news director (Peggy Phillip was let go in August) and without a general manager with Mike Vrabac’s suddent retirement in July. The NBC affiliate had been doing very well in the ratings to this point, but it is anyone’s guess what will happen with those two key spots now vacant for months. The departure of stalwart reporter Chris Hernandez is not a positive. However, meteorologist Gary Lezak will be bringing Stormy the weather dog to the station to celebrate his 12th Birthday.
* WDAF-Fox 4 heads into the sweeps without its long-time VP of News Bryan McGruder. On the other hand, the morning show has finally stabilized by inserting Karli Ritter as its meteorologist last month to replace Don Harman.
* The main question at KCTV is whether the CBS affiliate’s hiring of an outside morning team can start to generate improved ratings during this important period. Alexis Del Cid from Portland and Dave Hall from Las Vegas have been in place since August, and it will be interesting to see if they are connecting with viewers.

It is MADDING how often they do that stuff, have really cut down watching because of all the small talk on the set !!!! Come on #4 !!!!
