It officially ended at 5:26 a.m. on Monday, February 13.
That was the official time/date of the conclusion of KSHB Meteorologist Gary Lezak’s annual ”Snowflake Contest” where fans of the popular weather guy were asked to predict when Kansas City would receive its first official inch of snowfall.
The contest started with more than 5,500 entries and was down to just four still remaining. It has never gone this long in the history of the contest.
“Thanks for posting!,” Lezak told Bottom Line. “If it didn’t snow today we would have been waiting a few more weeks?”
The winner was LaToya Fraser of Lenexa who picked the date exactly when an inch of snow was measured outside the KSHB building in KCMO. She wins a pair of rings from Eskew’s Jewelers.
Lezak’s popular dogs Stormy and Breezy (left) were on hand to verify the snow.
