She’s been a fixture on Kansas City TV for about 17 years, and now Elizabeth Alex, KSHB’s marquee anchor, will be leaving the station to focus on her full-time job with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging based in Kansas City, KS.
Alex, who joined KSHB in 1996, will end her daily anchoring duties on Wednesday, February 27th, according to Brian Bracco, Vice President and General Manager for KSHB/KMCI-TV.
February 27 is the final night of the important February TV sweeps period that starts Jan. 31.
The station says that Alex will continue to serve in a “Special Correspondent role with 41 Action News and will contribute to future special projects and participate in various station sponsored events.”
In March 2011, Alex stepped down from her full-time 10 p.m. co-anchor spot to take a position with KidsTLC while still anchoring the NBC affiliate’s 6 p.m. newcasts with Mark Clegg. She was replaced on the 10 p.m. news by Christa Dubill.
“I love telling stories,” Alex said. “I am delighted to be telling stories about the life changing work CFCA is doing around the world, and to still have the opportunity to report on events here in Kansas City.”
“I thank KSHB, and the people of Kansas City for the honor of all these wonderful years on the air.”
Last September, Bottom Line reported that she was leaving KidsTLC (formerly TLC for Children) to join the Christian Foundation group as its Community Outreach and Media Relations Director, but would still continue to anchor the 6 p.m. news.
A Kansas City native, Alex grew up in Overland Park and graduated from Shawnee Mission West. She attended the University of Arkansas and worked in broadcasting in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, Ark., The Quad Cities and West Palm Beach, Fla., before joining KSHB.
The winner of numerous journalism awards during her career, she is widely known for her humanitarian activities. She also shared a close bond with cancer patients and their families following the loss of her late husband, Brian, to esophogeal cancer.
In February, KSHB’s viewers will get one last look at Elizabeth’s most memorable stories and moments over the past 17 years.

SAD TO SEE HER GO
Well. I’m VERY sad to see her go. She has always been a class act and was by far one of my favorite media personalities on the air in this city.
Now the two questions that remain are simple:
A) Is Christa simply going to become the full-on anchor at 5, 6 and 10pm or
B) Is that what one of their open anchor job positions is, a 6pm anchor?
Still very sad to see her go either way.

Look for the basket of media personalities to be turned upside down. I know of others being moved to new positions. Let’s just hope they rid us of that tragic KC Live show.

ELIZABETH ALEX AND EDWARD R. MURROW
Dear Mr. Landsberg: We will greatly miss Elizabeth Alex here in the KC-area. She truly is a journalist in the tradition of the late, great Edward R. Murrow. I say that because of an act of great courage she showed with respect to the Sofia Salva tragedy. Ms. Alex has offered to do a fair interview with the young policewoman, Melody Spencer, who was involved in that tragedy. Ms. Alex was aware that the media and the bloggers had been absolutely savage in their attacks on Ms. Spencer because they felt that as a woman she should have been more sensitive to Ms. Salva’s situation. She felt that Ms. Spencer deserved a chance to give her side of the story. This act took enormous courage given the power of the Politically Correct Thought Police-in standing up to the PC Police Ms. Alex showed the same courage that Edward R. Murrow showed in 1954 when he stood up to Joe McCarthy and the Anti-Communism Thought Police. Elizabeth, we will miss you but we wish you well in your new calling!! Elizabeth is very rude, speaks down to people and doesn’t get along with many people. Everyone at the station is glad to see her go.

I have to contradict “Insider’s” comment. I have had the opportunity to speak with Elizabeth several times over the years and have always found her to be incredibly gracious, attentive and a very thoughtful person.
Her extensive charity work shows her true character. I truly doubt anyone at KSHB is “happy to see her go”.
LOSE ‘DOGMAN’
Now if the Dogman would go elsewhere, 41 would rise in the standings, so to speak.
I have QUIT watching 41 because I am sick and tired of the damn dogs, and all the vacation time Lezak is on, I wish I could do that, but the dogs have GOT TO GO !!!
Until he is gone, I will not watch 41 weather, and have switched over to 4 weekdays and 5 weekends ! I want WEATHER not dog stories !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
