The old joke is “We’re from corporate and here to help you…”
That might not be quite as funny today at Kansas City NBC Action News affiliate 41 KSHB with the news that its parent company will be providing direct support to its operations.
The site TVSPY is reporting that the Scripps station group has announced a restructuring in station leadership, with general managers Ed Fernandez, Sam Rosenwasser and Steve Wasserman taking on expanded roles.
According to the story, Fernandez, currently the general manager of WXYZ in Detroit, will also oversee KSHB-KMCI in Kansas City and the Azteca America affiliates.
KSHB’s current VP & GM is Mike Vrabac.
In a memo it was noted “The three general managers will continue to serve at their home markets while providing “support and guidance” to the other general managers.”
KSHB WILL RECEIVE ‘CORPORATE SUPPORT’

So then what does this mean? KSHB essentially has TWO general managers now, and Mike Vrabac is going to do LESS?
Also, as those comments there state, this Brian Lawlor guy or whatever is apparently doing a lot at Scripps since being promoted to down everything else around yet him support himself further.
Also, KSHB has seen some RECORD GROWTH lately. It would be a SHAME to see that all go to waste because of stupid decisions up at corporate!
Good move that other companies have used over the years, called the buddy system. One GM looks at what the other station is doing and responds with compliments and suggestions. I used it as a PD with Citadel several years ago and oversaw a station in Chattanooga and they did the same to me. The program works.
