KSHB-TV, Kansas City’s NBC affiliate, will launch a new network called “COZI-TV” on April 1, according to an announcement by Brian Bracco, Vice President and General Manager of KSHB/KMCI-TV.
COZI (LINK) is a new national network from NBC Universal that launched in January and is a mix of classic TV and movies, with original programs running on the weekend.
Some of the classic television shows will include Magnum PI, Marcus Welby, Charlie’s Angels, the Lone Ranger, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman and Highway to Heaven.
COZI will replace the 41 Action News 24-hour weather channel which currently runs on KSHB’s D2 channel. It will be broadcast over the air on Channel 41.2 and it is anticipated that all major Kansas City cable systems will also air the network.
Specific channels will be announced as agreements are reached with various cable providers.
NOT EXCITED
I was excited about this, even after I saw that the “original programming” is all low-rent reality fare (but what other kind is there?). But then my excitement faded when I saw the classic shows they air. I love classic tv, but seriously, these are crappy shows. Why not show good tv from that era? Like MASH, Mary Tyler Moore show, Little House on the Prairie, Dick Van Dyke show, Happy Days, Carol Burnett show, Dragnet, GetSmart, That Girl. Those shows are all well before my time but they’re really good. But really, Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman and Lone Ranger? Seriously, NBC?
LONG-FORGOTTEN MOVIES
I guess everybody’s got their guilty pleasures, but as noted before, if you check out the schedules for ME, This or the Antenna “networks” already available, you’d be surprised how much of this is already on. And if you have a DVR, it doesn’t really make much difference when it comes on.
“Excitement” is too strong a word for me, but rather than “classic TV” what I like best about these new-sprung “networks” are the off-beat and long forgotten movies that aren’t even available on DVD.
SOME GREAT SHOWS
Little House is on Inspire TV, MTM was, last I looked, on Antenna TV,along with Newhart(the version where Bob is the psychologist and Jerry Fogel popped in from time to time). That Girl is also is also on Antenna TV,as is, I believe Dick Van Dyke.
I am surprised Dragnet isn’t on COZI TV, given it was handled by Universal TV in its day.
I know people love MASH, but it’s had its umpteenth rerun on FOX 4..enough already.

CISCO KID
If you want some REALLY old shows, how about the Cisco Kid? The episodes were shot in color, long before color TVs were mass produced.The producers had some vision there.

OTHER SITCOMS
MTM and the Bob Newhart Show from the ’70s are on Me TV, as is Get Smart…the only sitcom produced by Talent Associates, Ltd. that ever gets rerun. When is someone going to let The Good Guys (1968 sitcom), Run,Buddy,Run, The Hero and The Governor & J,J. out of the vaults?
PROGRAMMING IDEAS
I just wish someone would bring back Ultra-Man, Hanna-Barbara shorts (Yogi, Snagglepus, Daddy & Augie Doggy) and the original Speed Racer. I haven’t seen these in 30+ years.
