Jonathon Ketz

Jonathon Ketz will begin his formal broadcasting career this Monday when he joins WQAD-TV Quad Cities News 8 in Moline, IL as a reporter.
The son of KMBC anchor/ reporter Kris Ketz, who has been with Kansas City’s ABC affiliate since 1983, Jonathon recently graduated from the University of Missouri.
But not only is he following in his father’s footsteps at the station where his dad began his TV career, but Jonathon, 21, is also following in the footsteps of his legendary grandfather, Jim King (Ketz), at the station where he is considered a TV broadcasting icon.
How much of a legend was Jim King (above) at WQAD?
He was the station’s main anchorman from the day the station first signed-on until 1998, and doubled as its News Director for most of that time. His signature sign-off at the end of his newscasts was always “Thank you for inviting us into your home” and is fondly remembered even today.
When Jim King died from a heart attack January 2, 1999, the street outside the station was renamed “Jim King Road.”
In March 2011, the station introduced a new HD set. It is housed in the “Jim King Studio.”
And now Jonathon Ketz will be launching his TV career at WQAD, where his father and grandfather both worked. He will drive on Jim King Road and go on the air in the Jim King Studio.
Any pressure?
“To be honest, there will be some pressure working here,” Jonathon told Bottom Line, “But it won’t come from my dad.
“I will be living with my grandma, Gloria Ketz,” he jokes, “and I guarantee she will be critiquing my performance every night and letting me know how I could have done better.”
