KCTV STORY HIGHLIGHTS HY-VEE EMPLOYEE’S DEDICATION

One definition of Public Relations is “Doing good and getting caught at it.”

That was exactly the case of an employee at Hy-Vee’s supermarket in Overland Park, who was featured in a superb story by Jeanene Kiesling at KCTV Thursday night. Laura McCallister was the Multimedia Producer on the piece.

Thanks to an alert Hy-Vee employee, Austin Ramiriz, an elderly lady was persuaded not to send a Money Order to the Phillipines. Rather than simply process her request, Ramirez went above and beyond by asking questions and showing the 88-year-old that it would not be wise to send $1,900 to a scammer.

It was the kind of story that could likely help many people in the future from falling to the scam.

And Hy-Vee’s Ramirez was a PR person’s dream interview.

He ended the story by noting, “We do more than grocery at Hy-Vee. We will take care of you beyond that. We got you.”

Hy-Vee spends a ton on advertising in various media outlets. But you just can’t buy that kind of positive publicity.

I agree that it is a great story!! I am so glad that, for once, a good deed gets recognized and gets on TV. Mr. Ramirez is obviously the sort of employee every establishment wishes that they had. Also, Thanks to KCTV and Ms. Kiesling and Ms. McAllister for putting this story on the air. Take care. Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans

“Where there’s a helpful smile in every aisle.” And employee-owned, too, just like The Star was in the good old days.
