Kansas City’s Metro Voice newspaper captured a number of top awards at the annual Convention of the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) held recently in Colorado Springs.
The EPA is an international organization comprised of magazines and newspapers which primarily serve an audience in the U.S. and Canada. The Metro Voice is one of two faith-based newspapers that serve Kansas City with the other being the Jewish Chronicle.
Dwight Widaman, publisher and editor of the monthly Metro Voice, accepted top awards as his paper was named “Newspaper of the Year” in the general category of newspaper publishing, first place in the “Association of Christian Newspapers” category that includes regional community newspapers, and second place in the “Awards of Excellence.” He also serves as Treasure on the EPA’s Board of Directors.
Widaman has owned the Metro Voice for 22 of its 23 years. The paper has two regional editions with a circulation of over 25,000 and a website, metrovoicenews.com.
Widaman founded the Lee’s Summit Tribune, Noland Road Shopper and Independence Weekly newspapers. Prior to news publishing, he served as marketing director for H&R Block and marketing production coordinator for Avila College. He also hosted a weekly news radio program for several years and worked at the PBS affiliate at the University of Central Missouri.
