Things might not be as bad financially at the Kansas City Star these days as often reported as the McClatchy-owned paper made four major executive promotions today:

Julie Terry has been named Vice President of Advertising. She started at The Star in 1994 and served as an Account
Executive in many retail and national territories, and most recently, Director of Retail and National Advertising. She has been a leader in all retail digital initiatives, most recently Digital Connect, Impress Local and Dealsaver.

Ken Batrick will become the Vice President of Audience, effective May 13. Batrick, who joined The Star 32 years ago and has
held nearly every circulation management position over that time, has been Circulation Director since 2003. In addition to his
duties at The Star, he has been Regional Circulation Director for The Wichita Eagle, where he led the Eagle’s circulation
department and audience services.

Michelle Jolles has been named Director of Audience and Product Innovation, and will oversee all of the marketing and
promotions for The Star. Jolles, who wrote a news release announcing the promotions, has been Director of Targeted Publications and Events, will report to Ken Batrick and be part of the operating committee. She is Publisher of Spaces magazine, M, The Magazine for Kansas City Moms and KC Weddings magazine, and is General Manager of Ink magazine.

Jim Gorman has been promoted to a dual role as Audience Sales Director for The Kansas City Star and Regional Audience
Director, with responsibilities for The Wichita Eagle and will report to Ken Batrick. Gorman has been the Circulation Sales and
Marketing Manager and has led The Star’s Marketing Department with responsibility for marketing, outside media
promotion, and community involvement initiatives.

“The appointment of these talented, proven leaders marks an exciting moment for the future of our Star,”said Mi-Ai Parrish,
President and Publisher.
