It is the station that many people profess to hate with a deep passion.

It has been called “Faux” News by critics and is lampooned on a nightly basis by Jon Stewart and others social commentators. Just the mention of the name “Bill O’Reilly” is like fingernails on a chalkboard to his many critics. They tried unsuccessfully to get him fired over news stories he did years ago.

The Urban Dictionary, not known for its spelling expertise, blasts Fox News and its “Fair and Balanced” tagline: “A slogan used by FOX news in a sarcastic sense, knowing full well that they are neither fair nor balanced, but rather simply a chairleader for the right wing agenda.” (Note: Make that “cheerleader.”)

The Fox News Channel might be lambasted by many, but the May 2015 ratings show the “Fair and Balanced” network is crushing its competition in virtually every ratings category. When the dust clears, that is all any media outlet wants and the ratings help determine advertising rates.

TV Newser reports FNC showed “Double digit growth among younger viewers. In fact, in prime time, FNC is up a whopping 42 percent vs. May 2014 in the adults 25-54 demo.

“CNN was the No. 2 cable news network in total day viewers and the adults 25-54 demo for the month of May. CNN showed the most growth and has now beaten MSNBC for 11 consecutive months in total day among both total viewers and the demo. CNN also had its best prime-time demo advantage over MSNBC in more than seven years, since February 2008.”

While Fox is growing MSNBC had its worst ratings month since 2007 with its top host, Rachel Maddow, fading quickly.

“MSNBC continues to struggle in the ratings, with few bright spots in the month of May,” noted TV Newser. “This was the network’s least-watched month since December 2007, among total viewers. Its No. 1 program, The Rachel Maddow Show, had its second-lowest rated month ever in total viewers. Still, Maddow topped CNN’s 9 p.m. show among total viewers for the 24th straight month.”

This comes on the heels of a recent Washington Post story that highlighted Fox News is far and away the most trusted national news channel (below). According to the Post, “Put simply: Fox News is a ratings juggernaut.”

Many people love to dump on Fox News, but the truth is, FNC is laughing all the way to the bank.
