Super Bowl

It may have been one of the worst Super Bowl games ever, but it was watched by 111.5 million people making it the most viewed television program in U.S. history.

Maybe the Seahawks’ 43-8 victory followed the same theory of why people slow down and gawk at traffic accidents. They simply could not turn away.

According to TV Newser (LINK), the blowout victory by the Seattle Seahawks “surpassed the 2012 game on NBC when the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in a much closer game. 111.3 million watched that Super Bowl. The game is also now the most-watched program on FOX, breaking the 111.0 million viewer mark for the 2011′s Super Bowl, when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“As for the Super Bowl halftime show, viewership for Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers jumped 4 million viewers over the full game’s average, with 115.3 million viewers watching. That surpasses the 110.8 million who watched Beyonce last year and the prior record of 114.0 million set by Madonna two years ago.”

Ironically, while one might assume the leading TV viewing market for the game would be either Denver or Seattle, it turned out Kansas City drew the highest ratings in the nation.

TV Spy reported that “Kansas City drew the highest ratings, posting a 58.1 rating / 78 share, meaning 78% of TVs in use in the Kansas City market were turned to FOX affiliate WDAF.

“Seattle was the second highest-rated market, posting a 56.7/92…Indianapolis… was third with a 53.9/74, followed by New Orleans, Tulsa, Las Vegas, Portland, Knoxville and Jacksonville. Denver, and station KDVR, was tenth with a 51.4 rating / 83 share.”
