At Bottom Line Communications we might have to add a new note to our media training: “It is never a good idea to punch reporters in the face during an interview.”
That’s exactly what happened to investigative reporter Jeff Chirico CBS Atlanta, who was sucker punched in the face by the father whose son was being investigated by the station. The reporter was knocked to the ground.
The son had operated a used car lot and tax preparation scam in several other locations in the past.
Chirico was not seriously injured and has not reported whether he will file assault charges.
Actually, the worst thing we have ever witnessed was a client kiss a reporter. While that is not encouraged, it is better than punching one…
REPORTER HAD IT COMING
Once the reporter tried to walk through the door, he had it coming, in my opinion.

NOT RIGHT TO ASSAULT
It’s not right to assault anyone, especially if you’re not threatened. The old man could have called the cops and pressed charges for trespassing. Hope that old man punches the wrong person someday and gets his clock cleaned. Wouldn’t take much.
NOT TRESPASSING
No trespass by the reporter. You have to be in the intent of committing a crime or refuse to leave the property when asked by the owner to be charged.
CHARGES
Forgot to add - hope the reporter files assault charges.
