Julius Karash, who spent more than two decades as a reporter at the Kansas City Star, is no longer the executive editor of KC Business magazine, an Anthem Media Group publication that has seen more than its fair share of employee turnover the past several years.
Sources told Bottom Line that Karash, who spent 21 years at the McClatchy-owned Star covering the transportation, real estate and health care beats, was at the Overland Park-based magazine almost exactly one year. He was responsible— on a part-time contract basis—for developing story ideas, writing major stories, moderating panels and representing the magazine at public events. His duties reportedly will be spread among existing staffers.
Karash will continue to write for the magazine, and plans on devoting more time to writing, editing and PR for his own business.
Somewhat ironically, Karash replaced Rob Roberts (below), who was a short-term editor at KC Business magazine. At one time the two were competitors when Karash covered the health care beat for the Star and Roberts did likewise for the Kansas City Business Journal.
After leaving Anthem Roberts took a position with the Lee’s Summit Journal, but recently left that newspaper to become the news editor with The Dispatch in Shawnee.

Did Anthem also kill “Commercial Journal,” a publication for the commercial real estate industry?
Commercial Journal has been folded into KC Business quarterly.
