No matter what branch of service they were in or when they served, those who served our country spent years away from family and friends on our behalf.

Today, is the one day of the year we take time to recognize those who served our country.

For years Kansas City-based Applebee’s has saluted veterans and now other businesses have joined them.

A special personal salute goes out to my father-in-law, 92, who today is in a nursing home. He won a Bronze Star and several Purple Hearts and still carries shrapnel in his body from WWII. He was truly part of the greatest generation.

To all who served: Thanks.
