After refusing to comment to Bottom Line last week whether it had won a contract to print copies of the Wall Street Journal, the Kansas City Star announced today it has been awarded a five-year contract to print and distribute the Midwest edition of the WSJ. In reality, Tonyskansascity.com uncovered the scoop (10/31) in a story titled "KANSAS CITY STAR WILL SOON START PRINTING THE WALL STREET JOURNAL!!!" According to Tony, the Star will be printing about 18,000 copies per day for distribution in Missouri and Kansas. The contract began 11/9. Were excited to bring production of The Wall Street Journal to Kansas City, said Star publisher Mark Zieman today. Its great to work with a world-class company that shares our passion for newspapers. The Star opened its $199 million production facility in 2006 and has signed more than 25 commercial printing agreements. Publications printed by The Star include the Pitch Weekly, Kansas City Sports & Fitness, the Riverfront Times of St. Louis and the City Weekly of Omaha. The Star has been delivering The Journal to area readers for five years.
