DESPITE MASSIVE PUBLICITY ADAM'S RIB SHUTS DOORS
Kansas City Star reporter Joyce Smith has broken a story on the Star's blog saying that Adam's Rib BBQ, which just opened in Overland Park in the spring and received massive publicity since then, has shut its doors.
"Adam's Rib will be closed for a short while for construction and travel for new recipes," reported Smith about a sign on the door of the restaurant.
However, Smith didn't just report about a note on the door, but also interviewed the restaurant's executive chef (and silent partner):
"But executive chef John Pinter, who was removing items from the building Thursday night, said it would not be reopening."
Phone calls to the restaurant today were not answered.
At least two local media outlets have black eyes over the closing.
The Pitch this week announced its "Best of" list and the alternative weekly named Adam's Rib as the "Best Barbecue: South" and lavished praised on it (LINK).
However, former Star gossip-meister Hearne Christopher might have two black eyes over the closing.
For the second time in one week, Smith has (again) scooped Christopher on a story. What particularly stings is that she scooped him on the Adam's Rib's story despite the restaurant being a major advertiser on his KCConfidential site (until this morning).
Christopher had lavished praise his advertiser a number of times:
"Hey look. Adam?s Rib is an advertiser on KC Confidential, right? Duh?"
"I have seen the future of kick ass BBQ in Overland Park and it is Adam?s rib..."
