SAMSON REPORTEDLY MOVING TO RIVALS/YAHOO!
It looks like Derek Samson can be crossed off the list of candidates to take the soon-to-be vacated Sports Editor job at the Kansas City Star, according to multiple sources.
Samson, who has been the senior college editor at "Sporting News" since 2008, is reportedly moving to Rivals.com from Yahoo!Sports (LINK) instead of possibly taking over the SE job at the Star being vacated by Holly Lawton.
Lawton recently announced her resignation (LINK), and will reportedly stay on as sports editor until her replacement is named.
Prior to joining Sporting News Samson had spent a total of six years with the Star, first as a sports reporter and then later as assistant sports editor for three years.
Holder of a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska, Samson began his career as a sportswriter at the Idaho-Statesman for six years until joining the Star as a high school sports reporter in 2001. He left the Star in 2004 to take an editor post for a year with Conference Call magazine before rejoining the Star as assistant sports editor in 2005.
