Janice Ellis, founder, editor and publisher of Rise Up.
BOTTOM LINE: We have a tendency to agree with Tonyskansascity.com regarding "Rise Up," the publication that ran as an insert in some newspapers. The KC Business Journal reported that the publication stopped printing on August 3 "to gauge reader response and prepare to double its circulation, Publisher Janice Ellis said Tuesday." Rise Up lists former Star editor Doug Worgul as its managing editor and former Star publisher Art Brisbane as its "senior vice president of newspaper relations." 08-19-2008
08-20-2008 FEEDBACK: "It does not have a chance of working.....It is not a national publication so it doesn't get the national accounts....On the other hand, local accounts would not run in something that also appears in 11 other markets."
UPDATE (8/21/08): Kansas City Star Dan Margolies Not printing RiseUp, a national newspaper magazine insert covering issues of race and ethnicity, has suspended publishing. The publication, based in Kansas City and printed at The Kansas City Stars plant, launched June 20. It appeared in The Star and other papers, including the New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
