JOE POSNANSKI HEADING TO SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
Joe Posnanski
Award-winning Kansas City Star sports columnist Joe Posnanski, who is considered one of the top sportswriters in the nation, will be leaving the paper to assume a full-time position as a senior writer with Sports Illustrated, according to sources.
Posnanski has confirmed the story and reports he will stay in Kansas City and still write for the Kansas City Star. (Link to his announcement 8/5)
In August 2008 he began writing for Sports Illustrated, including a cover story on Kansas City Royals pitcher Zack Greinke. Since then he has been a regular contributor.
"JoPo," who grew up in Cleveland, joined the Star in October 1996 and has authored two books: "The Good Stuff " and "The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O'Neil's America." The O'Neil book won the Casey Award as the best baseball book of 2007.
His most recent book---titled "The Machine"---chronicles the famed 1975 Cincinnati Reds. It is due out in 09-09-09.
In both 2003 and 2005 Posnanski was named the top sports columnist in America by the Associated Press Sports Editors (ASPE).  He has been nominated 21 times for ASPE awards, and this year won the National Headliners Award for sports column writing.
He is a 10-time winner as best sports columnist in Missouri as voted by the Missouri Press Association and was the first recipient of the famed Joe McGuff journalism award named after the Star's legendary editor.

He and his wife, Margo, have two daughters.
