MEDIA HUMOR In this business, you gotta have a sense of humor. For instance the KC Star proudly announced (10/10/01) that columnist Rhonda Chriss Lokeman had won a second award from the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association. The Star was so proud of this honor that it took more than a month after it was given (10/7) to even make the announcement. Many folks felt it was the type of "honor" you shouldn't brag about since it shoes a basic bias. As one reporter noted, "It isn't exactly a Pulitzer..." We recently handled the publicity for a symposium that featured Mitch Albom, author of the mega-best-seller "Tuesdays With Morrie." Albom has been named America's best sports columnist 10 years in a row, has a syndicated radio show and is a regular panelist on ESPN's Sports Reporters. What struck us as funny was that when we inquired if Mitch could help with publicity efforts prior to the event we were told by his New York PR folks, "Mitch doesn't do interviews." "But, he's a journalist for crying out loud," we said. "He's made his living interviewing other folks." The response? "He hasn't done an interview prior to an event in three years, so it is not likely he will start now." He didn't, but we still generated super publicity for the event. Question: If you could live forever, would you and why? Answer: "I would not live
forever, because we should not live If Miss Alabama had gone through our media training she would not have answered this question like a blubbering idiot. We level the playing field so that you can work with the news media effectively to get YOUR key points across. "Television: A medium. So called because it's neither rare nor well done." - Ernie Kovacs "I'd run over my own mother to win the Super
Bowl"-Joe Jacoby of the
Redskins Since we're based
in Kansas, we feel compelled to share Wizard of Oz trivia. Did you know that
the munchkins (124 of them and a few kids) didn't really sing all those great songs in the
1939 movie? Many of them had thick German accents and all the voices were actually
dubbed in later. One Munchkin (a Lollipop kid) said they would sing things
like "Ding, dong the bitch is dead." "Why would anyone expect him to come out smarter? He
went to prison for three years, not Princeton." "Booze, broads and
bullshit. If you got all that, what else do you need?" TIP OF THE WEEK: In most television commercials advertising milk, a mixture of white paint and a little thinner is used in place of the milk. OUR FOUNDER!!!
