Q & A WITH MORNING TALKER CHRIS STIGALL
He's hosted the "KCMO Morning Show With Chris Stigall" talk radio program on 710-AM for nearly three years and has seen his ratings steadily increase during that time.
The conservative talker, who once interned on the "Late Show With David Letterman," is not afraid to bring his opinions and humor to local morning radio during the 5- 9 a.m. time slot.
Insiders have called him the hardest-working guy in local radio. His shows cover numerous topics and feature considerable research.
Besides hosting the KCMO Morning Show, Stigall is a substitute host for nationally syndicated radio talk show hosts Lou Dobbs, Michael Savage, Jerry Doyle, and Rusty Humphries, a contributing columnist to the "American Thinker" and a frequent guest commentator on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight.
  He
took two years away from the microphone to work as a district representative and press assistant to U.S. Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06).

A graduate of Oak Park High School, Stigall received a degree in broadcasting and journalism from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville.  He resides in KCMO with his wife and three children.
How long have you been in radio?
My first paid radio job was 1996 reading news and playing jazz and big band standards on the NPR affiliate KXCV/KRNW on the Northwest Missouri State University campus.
If you include interning for Randy Miller and Q-104, I've been kicking around since 1995. Or been kicked around, as it were.

Have you always wanted to have your own show?

Without question.  I didn't always know I wanted to host a talk show.  But having my own show was always the goal.
What have been the high points/low points/frustrations?

All three, for me, are happening right now.  No question now is the ugliest time radio has ever seen.  All media for that matter.
Many great friends and colleagues have lost their jobs and advertisers are pulling back.  At the same time our shows' sponsors are spending money and seeing results at an ever increasing rate.  We're extremely healthy right now in revenue and ratings.
What is the status of talk radio these days?

Talk radio is so healthy because we're all hungry for information and opinion on this radically changing, over reaching government intrusion in our lives.  Put simply, my personal low point and frustration with the business has created my professional high point thus far.
Do you see doing talk radio for the next 20 years?
If it's God's will and there's an audience that's still interested in what I have to say - I sure hope to be.

Have you ever considered another career?
I never wanted to do anything else but broadcast. I like to write, I like TV, but radio has always been my first love since I was a kid. Corny as it may sound, I'm blessed to have my dream job.

Best guest/worst guest?

Suzanne Somers - hands down - the worst.  I wanted to talk Three's Company and she wanted to talk hormone treatment.  She filibustered the show on women's health issues for 15 minutes.  It was painful.
You know how I KNOW it was awful?  I ran into her this spring at a convention in LA, and when I re-introduced myself to her - I'm not making this up - she said excitedly, "Yes, I remember you!  You were the ONE interviewer that let me talk."

Best?  Sarah Palin.  A particularly meaningful time in my life as my daughter was born the week Palin was nominated for VP.  When I shared that information with the Governor, she immediately turned the interview around and asked my daughter's name.
I was so shocked she'd even care to ask, I forgot my newborn's name.

It was a moment I'll never forget for a number of personal reasons, but also because it verified to me the authenticity of the woman.  She's the real deal.  You can't teach that stuff.

How much weight have you lost?

I am flirting with the 50-pound mark thanks to Dr. Rick Tague and the Center for Nutrition. Online at kansasdiet.com or call 913-814-8222 and be sure to tell them Chris sent you. What? I've got bills to pay too.
Are you working with a contract these days?
I have signed a legally binding document for a stated period of time. Contact my personal attorney Kyle Krull for more information at kylekrull.com (The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely on advertisements.)

"So, how much do you guys get for running Stigall's commercials for him?  What?  I know you've "got" bill to pay, too."
08-04-2009
"That was a very nice piece on Stigall.  Funny, well written.  As is HE.  I'd love to listen to him but I just can't stand his politics."

   "
Your Q&A interview with Chris Stigall just showed how utterly naive he must be. To make a comment that Sarah Palin asking his daughter's name showed how real she was and that you can't teach that stuff is beyond belief.
"You would be the first to know that this is exactly what political operatives/PR flaks teach their candidates to do in interviews. It gets the interviewer to let down their defenses and diverts their attention so they fail to ask the tough questions that all politicians don't want to be asked."   ---Duke Frye
