01-21-2009 KMBZ ROCKETS INTO KC RADIO RATINGS LEAD The fall radio ratings for Kansas City are out and NewsTalk 980 KMBZ notched an impressive 7.0 rating to move into the top spot among all area radio stations. From the summer book to the latest one the Entercom station jumped fully 1.5 ratings points. Much of the success could have come from high listenership during the recent Presidential election. Cumulus talk station KCMO-710 AM also saw a significant ratings jump from 2.8 in the summer to 4.1 in the fall and finished eighth in the market. Perennial ratings leader KPRS-FM finished second as the urban radio station saw its ratings slip from 7.6 in the summer to 5.9 in this book. Entercom's KQRC finished third at 5.6. KBEQ-104 was the top-rated country station, but the Wilks-owned station finished seventh overall. In fact, all country stations in the area are down considerably since 10 years ago when they garnered a 15-20 share of the audience. That is now 11.7. In sports talk radio Union Broadcasting's WHB-810 AM finished in the tenth spot at 3.8, which was an increase over its 3.0 summer rating. Rival KCSP 610 AM, which recently brought in a new program director, was in 19th place with a 1.6 rating, down from its 1.7 in the summer book.
