05-09-2010 SUNDAY MORNING'S 'RELIGION ON THE LINE' CELEBRATES 17TH ANNIVERSARY It almost sounds like some sort of politically incorrect joke: "A Catholic, Protestant and Jew were together doing a radio show and...." Well, it is no joke as the "Religion on the Line" radio show (6-8 a.m.) on KCMO-710 AM celebrated its 17th anniversary on Mother's Day (5/9). "I hope you realize how important your show has been for so many listeners for so many years," said a caller identified as "Marilyn." "God bless you all." The show first went on the air May 9, 1993, on the afternoon with Robert Lee Hill of Community Christian Church, Rabbi Michael Zedek of Congregation B'nai Jehudah (where he now Rabbi Emeritus) and Father Thom Savage, President of Rockhurst College. Over the years host Rev. Hill and Rabbi Zedek (who has moved to new positions in Cincinnati and Chicago since 2000 and now calls in each Sunday) have remained with the show the entire time. Hill announced today that he will be taking a several-month break from the show to go on Sabbatical. Dr. John Purk followed Savage, Father Pat Rush and Chancellor George Noonan representing the Catholic faith on the show. "Religion on the Line" is designed to "Encourage Ecumenical Understanding and Interfaith Dialogue" and it has achieved that goal over the years. Some regular callers routinely challenge the hosts on a variety of issues and at times things can get lively, but loyal listeners wouldn't have it any other way.
