01-08-2010/01-11-201001-17-2010 NEWSROOM CUTS THIS WEEK AT KC STAR Several sources are telling Bottom Line that as many as 10 more journalists will be let go at the Kansas City Star as the McClatchy-owned paper continues its ongoing downsizing. Insiders report that 7-10 journos will be eliminated as early as Monday (1/18), including many well-known and well-respected individuals. The cutbacks have now been pushed back more than a week. The cutbacks surprised many journalists at the paper since they were recently told that the newspaper was going to give raises again after freezing them all of last year. The newspaper has cut personnel, eliminated bonuses, implemented mandatory furloughs, shifted people to part-time status, outsourced duties, converted editorial content to advertising and raised its prices in an effort to generate additional revenues. Send all tips of news employees being let go to [email protected]. All e-mails are confidential.
