10-13-2010/10-14-2010 TOOK VACATION TIME... KMBC'S MARCUS MOORE REPORTING FROM CHILE It might be one of the biggest news events in recent history as 33 miners were being rescued in Chile after being trapped 2,000 feet below the surface for 69 days. And Marcus Moore, general assignment reporter at KMBC-TV since 2005, was filing reports from there for his station as one miner after another was being pulled to safety. He did a report for KMBC's radio broadcasting partner KMBZ (10/13) and another one for the station Thursday morning. "News is in my blood," Moore says in his KMBC profile. "I believe the Lord has called me to the profession and I simply want to fulfill His will for my life." Did the local ABC affiliate suddenly find some major expense account money for the trip? Well, "no." It turns out that Moore actually decided on his own to take vacation time in Chile to cover the monumental news story. According to a colleague at the station it didn't seem that unusual that Moore ended up in Chile. "He loves this kind of stuff," said a fellow reporter. "No one is really surprised that a vacation of his would find him in the middle of a major news event." And while the KMBC is bragging it is the only local TV station with a reporter in Chile, Moore's stories so far have been strictly phoners without any on-camera reports. His reports are not near the level of national media reports that have provided intimate details of the entire rescue effort. It now appears as if Moore was hoping to use the rescue effort as a resume builder.
