06-03-2010 KCUR'S FRANK MORRIS FILING NATIONAL STORIES FOR NPR Kansas Citians are well aware that veteran KCUR News Director Frank Morris is one of the leading journalists in the city. He has been with KCUR since 1991 and news director since 1999. Now people across the country are learning first-hand his talents as he files ongoing reports for National Public Radio from Louisiana on the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. His insightful reports have aired on such shows as "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," "Weekend Edition" and on hourly newscasts. Bill Anderson, who hosted the "Walt Bodine Show" (6/3) spoke with Morris about the challenges of suddenly being called to start filing reports on a story that has breaking news on an ongoing basis. Morris described the hopes and fears of the people--prominent politicians, corporate officials and affected residents--he encountered and reflects on the implications of the spill for the region's, and the nation's, future. He also talked about the behind-the-scenes challenges (like renting a car) a journalist faces when working on a major breaking news story. (LINK TO PODCAST OF INTERVIEW)
