VERBECK CAPTURES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOR; KCUR NAMED TOP RADIO STATION
Veteran radio newsman Dan Verbeck, who spent most of his career at KMBZ 980 AM until switching to Kansas City's public radio station KCUR earlier this year, was presented with the "Joe McGuff Lifetime Achievement" award, the Kansas City Press Club's highest honor. Verbeck received his honor during the group's award annual awards ceremony Saturday night (06-07-2008). The Kansas City Star was named "Newspaper of the Year" (Note: The Star only reported its own winners and ignored major honorees.) http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/story/654248.html KOMU-TV8, the University of Missouri-owned station in Columbia, took honors as the "TV station of the Year" and Kansas City's KCUR (public radio) was named the top radio station.
