03-22-2010/UPDATE 03-29-2010 EX-KCTV INVESTIGATORS WIN NATIONAL AWARDS KCTV5 is highlighting the fact that its "Investigative Team" captured three National Headliner Awards (LINK). The CBS affiliate is not highlighting the fact that two of the reporters involved with the award-winning stories had been terminated late last year. Ash-Har Quraishi, Chris Koeberl, Ken Ullery (investigative photographer/editor) and Chris Henao received a second place award in the Health/Science Reporting division for their story "Oral Arguments." The same team was also second in Environmental Reporting for their story "Grazing For Safety." Unfortunately, Quraishi is now working in Chicago after being suddenly let go in December (LINK). Veteran investigative producer Koeberl was also given his walking papers at the same time. Incidentally, Henao, who is now KCTV's manager of investigations, took a first place Headliner "Medal" award for a story he worked on when he was with KHOU-TV in Houston titled "Under Fire: Discrimination and Corruption in the Texas National Guard." Started 75 years ago, the National Headliner Awards program is one of the oldest and largest annual contests recognizing journalistic merit in the communications industry. Henao's "Under Fire" story also won a Medal in competition with the Investigative Reporters & Editors contest (LINK) in the Top 20 Market" category. Quraishi, Koeberl, Ullery and Henao also were finalists for a story they did together at KCTV5 titled "Weapon of Choice."
