KCTV CAPTURES NEWS CROWN IN KANSAS CITY; KSHB BIGGEST LOSER
For the fifth straight major ratings book (excluding the Winter Olympics) KCTV5 will wear the crown as the top-rated TV station in the Kansas City area. The CBS affiliate once again captured the prestigious 10 p.m. news slot over former long-time leader KMBC-TV9. KMBC at one point had held the top sport for more than a decade.
KCTV garnered a 12 rating and 19 share at 10 p.m., with KMBC with a 10 rating and 16 share. WDAF-Fox 4 was the only station to see an increase from last May's book, with KSHB-TV41 suffering the biggest loss from the previous year.
The late news is the most watched and generates, by far, the most revenue. What was particularly interesting was KCTV still won despite its CBS prime time lead-ins were down 15% in the KC market; ABC's prime time shows in KC were down 11% in the same period.
Fox 4 news continued its dominance in the morning, with KMBC holding down second place for all time spots except from 5 to 5:30, where KCTV was second.
