"The only security of all is in a free press" --- Thomas Jefferson

Jeffrey Flanagan of the Kansas City Star discussed the sports talk ratings more in-depth in his 5/12 column.  Full ratings are below...

For what is believed to be a first since Kevin Kietzman and Chad Boeger and company geared up WHB (810 AM) for an all-sports format, Kietzman wasn’t the station’s ratings leader in an Arbitron book.

WHB’s Soren Petro, with his midday show, actually nudged out Kietzman with a share of 11.0 to 10.8 for the coveted demographic of men aged 25-54 in the winter Aribtrons. Kietzman was still No. 1 in the city for that demographic in his time slot (2 to 6 p.m.), while Petro trailed Rush Limbaugh (KMBZ) by only .3.

So, was there any in-house sniping?

“None at all,” Kietzman said. “I am absolutely delighted. This is why we went so hard after Soren to get him from (Entercom). We knew he would put up good numbers. We knew he could beat Jim Rome (Rome had a 7.2 share on KCSP) and make a run on Rush.

“I couldn’t be happier for Soren. This helps the whole station.”

Count Petro in as one of the World’s Happiest Broadcasters.

“This was reflective of our whole book,” Petro said. “As a station, we had some great numbers. That’s what I’m proud of.”

A look at some of the other numbers from the winter Arbitrons for the demo of men aged 25-54:

■ Kietzman beat KCSP’s Marty Wall and Neal Jones with a share of 10.8 to 5.1.

■ WHB’s midmorning “Crunch Time” with Frank Boal and Dave Stewart beat KCSP’s Doug Franz and Tim Grunhard, 8.3 to 6.3.

■ In the early-morning shows, WHB’s Steven St. John and Bob Fescoe beat KCSP’s Damon Amendolara, 9.3 to 5.0.
