Summary: "435 South" magazine has a new owner and is going back to its roots of covering local folks in South Johnson County. '435 South' Has New Owner; New Focus The glossy "435 South" magazine, which made its debut in August 2005 with Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach on its first cover, has undergone an ownership change and will return to its original focus on local people and events. On 1/11 the "new and improved" publication held an event to announce it was now under local ownership and will return its focus to the Kansas City area. The cover of the revamped issue features Kate Spade, famed handbag designer who calls Kansas City home. Up-and-coming media star (and Missouri graduate) Kalsey McCall has been promoted from regional editor to "435 South's" editor-in-chief. Kathy Boos is now one of the publication's owners and will serve as director of advertising. It was formerly owned by Gannett Publications, which had similar magazines in other markets. Under Gannett ---based in Las Vegas--the magazine began to lose its local flavor over time. It went from local features of KC folks to the point where the December 2006 issue had as its "Local Icon" Barry Goldwater's daughter, who resides in Arizona. The publication started as "The Magazine of Overland Park" and later shifted to "The Magazine of South Johnson County." It is sent free to five targeted demographic zip codes in Overland Park and Leawood. More than 26,000 copies of the glossy publication are mailed each month to every home and business in the 66209, 66211, 66221, 66223 and 66224 zip codes. The
publication is located at 7500 College Blvd., Suite 500, Overland Park, KS
66210.
