RADIOGEORGE FLOPS; WOODS MOVES TO ST LOUIS

    In February 2006, former KCMO-710 morning talker George Woods announced he was forming his own Internet radio show:  RadioGeorge.  (Note: While we often experienced technical problems trying to get on the site, Woods sent us a blistering email 4/30 denying there were any glitches.)

    At the time he formed RadioGeorge Woods announced:  “Many broadcasters and media pundits picture radio broadcasting as some kind of battle among AM/FM, satellite radio, podcasting and Internet radio. This is not a war. Content—giving listeners what they want—will always determine the real leaders and followers in radio.  While there is obviously competition, there is also tremendous opportunity for creative synthesis among the new media and traditional radio.”

    Despite that rosey outlook, Woods announced (4/28) that he will be taking a talk job in St. Louis and RadioGeorge will "go on hiatus":

    "I wanted to make sure you heard the news personally: I've accepted an offer from KTRS AM (The Big 550) in St. Louis, Missouri, and will be hosting the new morning show there beginning Monday, May 1.

    "The show is "George Woods and the Morning News," from 5:30 - 9 a.m. I'll be the designated talker, joined by newsman Brian Kelly (formerly of Kansas City), sports figures from the Cardinals, the Rams, and the St, Louis Blues, and a lot of great stuff to get you going in the morning.

    "As for RadioGeorge, it'll be on hiatus for awhile. I have a feeling it will possibly morph into a blend of new media and radio that people will enjoy regardless of where they live. It's a concept with a lot of possibilities."

    Woods refused to provide any details regarding how many listeners RadioGeorge had during its brief tenure.
