A personal note received 5/20 from KM: "I have encountered so much positive feedback from my community, that it is very humbling." KATEY MCGUCKIN CASUALTY AS CUMULUS STARTS RADIO BLOODBATH The takeover (5/4) by Cumulus Media Inc. of the radio business of Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff across the country is currently under way and it is causing a bloodbath, including in the Kansas City market. Susquehanna owned KCFX, KCJK and KCMO AM &FM stations in this market. In a note to BLC, one local broadcaster reported it is a: "Bloodbath here this week as Cumulus took over... 20 fired the first day... people they had never met or taken the time to talk too. Really shitty..." One of the most prominent firings was KCMO-FM morning co-host Katey McGuckin (l). Also on the list was KCMO morning producer Josh ("Josh.com") of KCMO-AM. McGuckin responded to a series of positive posts from friends on the radio site www.gatewaycityradio.com regarding her termination: Thanks for the message. It is nice to know that people care. They can take your job, but they can't touch your spirit and love of why we decided to be part of this sometimes insane profession we choose. As a great friend told me, the industry is full of operators, but there are damn few broadcasters left. The pendulum always swings the other way. Thanks for the kind post. Cumulus Media is the second-largest radio company in the United States based on station count. Once the deal is complete, it will own or operate 345 radio stations in 67 U.S. media markets. |
