How important is being back on Time Warner cable to KMBC? If Friday’s ratings—the first full day that KMBC was back on TWC after 10 days are any indication— it is very, very important and the ratings reflect it.
While KMBC was still managing to win the morning and evening time slots even while off the air to Time Warner customers, with Time Warner the ABC affiliate crushed all its competitors at every period on Friday (below). KMBC had been losing to KSHB at the 5 and 6 p.m. slots, but now that has changed dramatically.
In fact, after 17 days of the 20 days of July TV sweeps (below), KMBC is in the driver’s seat for another ratings victory. It only trails KSHB by 2/10ths of a rating point at the 6 p.m. hour and is tied with an 11 share. Otherwise, it leads at every other time period.

Wait a minute here. How is it that KMBC wasn’t even on Time Warner for 10 days, KSHB take the number one spot virtually every single one of those days (eight out of ten I believe for both) by a sizable margin, KMBC come back and all of a sudden WIN virtually every time slot?
I don’t think these numbers are right…no wonder there were people disputing the validity of KMBC’s numbers when they were off the air.
Either the time they spent on-air during sweeps before they got knocked off were pulling in MASSIVE numbers, so massive that even being off Time Warner for ten days had virtually no affect on their averaging, or the numbers just aren’t right period.
I’m sorry, but I just personally find it hard to believe that they’re that close to KSHB.
