He was supposed to be the new golden boy of swimming who was going to replace the great Michael Phelps starting with the London Olympics.
Instead, between his awful media interviews and his pushy mother it seems as if no one really cares if the USA’s Ryan Lochte wins gold or not.
Not only has he has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of him in the pool, but now he has come across as nothing more than the stereotypical good-looking airhead.
In this day and age it seems almost impossible for someone of Lochte’s fame not to have been trained in handling media interviews.
It is obvious the women’s gymnastic team has been thoroughly media trained, and the media has fawned all over them. In fact, it seems as if any criticism of female athletes is not permitted at these Olympics with NBC’s Bob Costas often coming across as a teen with a crush during his interviews.
But, if Lochte had media training, it didn’t work. The media is making him look like he rode the short bus to school.
In a clip below Lochte was asked to multiply 7 times 4 and says, “21?” In all honesty, what kind of question is that to ask of an Olympian? Then again, why isn’t there someone who can rescue him when an interviewer is clearly trying to make him look stupid? Or trained him ahead of time how NOT to respond to every dumb
A recent interview with his mother where she talked about his series of “one-night stands” was awful. After he tried to explain what his mother really meant he then talked about peeing in the water before races (LINK). Media trainers across the country cringe…
