KMBZ MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE IN KC RADIO MARKET; KCSP PLUMMETS TO 23RD SPOT
Entercom's 980 KMBZ news/talk radio station moved from the fourth spot in the first part of the Winter radio ratings book into second place in the latest Arbitron radio ratings. KQRC, also an Entercom station, switched places with KMBZ and moved from second to fourth. KFKF, a Wilks station, remained in third. In sports talk, Union Broadcasting's WHB-810 AM slipped from the 14th spot to 19th in the latest book. However, rival KCSP 610 AM dropped two spots from 21 to 23 in the latest ratings. KCSP is hoping that broadcasting Kansas City Royals baseball games this season will give it a boost and help it pass WHB, the previous rights holder for the team. (The goal in landing the team's expensive broadcasting rights is that listeners will tune into hear the game, and when they turn on their radio in the morning it will be set to the station.) However, early indications are that listeners are listening to pre and post-game reports on WHB featuring veterans Soren Petro, Kevin Kietzman (and station owners/former players Jeff Montgomery and Brian McRae) and Danny Clinkscale while tuning into KCSP for the game only. It is a challenge for KCSP's Nick Wright, who at 23 years of age brings limited experience to the position. 04-08-2008
