KCTV5 DOMINATES KU CHAMPIONSHIP COVERAGE
There was no doubt which Kansas City TV station dominated the coverage of the University of Kansas victory in the NCAA Basketball Tournament Monday night.  KCTV-5 was the only station to pre-empt normal programming to stay with the celebration both in San Antonio, Lawrence and Kansas City.
Coverage extended until 1 a.m. with reporters covering every aspect of the celebration. And the high ratings (below) reflect the coverage.
The local CBS affiliate not only broadcast the game live, but then was also the only station to have reporters live on-air in San Antonio.  KCTV reporters were among the huge throng of an estimated 70,000 students and fans celebrating on Massachusetts Avenue near the KU campus and at KC's Power & Light District.
KCTV5 was the first to announce that classes were cancelled at KU on Tuesday, the dates and times of the team's arrival back in Lawrence, and future celebrations.  Chopper 5's helicopter even provided live crowd shots in Lawrence.
It was a job well done on one of the biggest news stories in years.
