Newsweek experiences huge turnover.

The bottom line is that there is no way possible that the quality of Newsweek magazine can even remotely remain at the same level in past years when nearly all the veteran staffers have departed. 04-02-2008

NEWSWEEK VETERANS BAIL OUT ON PUBLICATION
Should Job- Seeking Journos Target Newsweek?

How often does an entire magazine turnover at once?
That's practically the case at Newsweek today, which got a lot more than it bargained for when it offered 146 senior staffers generous buyouts (as much as two years' salary) and 111 of them accepted.
Among the departures: critics David Gates, David Ansen, and Cathleen McGuigan; top tech writer Steven Levy (who's headed to Wired with a writing contract as bonus); Budget Travel chief Harold Shain; the top research staff, and senior editors Nancy Cooper, George Hackett, and Alexis Gelber, among many, many others.
As Radar notes, the tsunami of departures will mean both a massive hit to the magazine's institutional memory, and plenty of opportunities for younger journalists seeking a foot in the door, as Newsweek will be forced to hire replacements for unanticipated departures...
