KPRS WINS SUMMER RATINGS; SPORTS TALKER WHB SLUMPING
Urban station KPRS-FM notched a 6.1 rating in the recently-released Summer Radio Ratings (12-plus) to edge active rock station KQRC-FM's 6.0 for the lead in Kansas City radio.
KPRS has been the long-time ratings leader or co-leader for years, however, with the implementation on the new Portable People Meter monitoring system starting with the next ratings period, that is likely to change. Minority stations will no longer receive extra ratings credit as they do today.
KMJK, which had slumped to a 3.8 rating in the Spring Book, finished third with a 5.4 in the Summer book.  Country station KFKF-FM was close behind in fourth with a 5.3 followed by talk station KMBZ-AM at 4.9.
In sports talk WHB recorded its lowest ratings in more than a year, finishing in the 13th spot with a 2.9 rating.  Rival KCSP finished four spots behind with a 2.0 rating, its second-highest rating in the past year as it trends upward as WHB is heading the other way.
In terms of market share, Entercom stations dominate the KC market with fully 25.5% of the listening audience with Wilks far behind at 16.5 and Cumulus Partners at 15.0.
