Diane Cho, who joined KMBC as a morning anchor in February 2011, will transition into a 10 p.m. reporter position starting later this month, sources have told Bottom Line exclusively.
She will likely make the move prior to the important November TV sweeps period, which starts Oct. 26 and will run through Nov. 22 this year.
The popular Cho came to the ABC affiliate from WJXT in Jacksonville, FL. She reportedly has had a difficult time adjusting to the challenging hours involved with a morning broadcast that starts at 4 a.m. In fact, even the KMBC profile of her notes: “When Cho is not working, she loves to catch up on lost sleep…”
Cho grew up in Orlando and graduated from the University of Florida with a double major in broadcast journalism and political science. She interned for Hearst television affiliate WESH-TV in Orlando, Fl., and also reported for WRDW in Augusta, Ga.

BIG SHOES TO FILL
So basically she’s being demoted. That’s too bad, because I really enjoy watching her in the morning. I guess this means more Donna Pitman in the mornings…which is also too bad, given how she can barely read passed grade school level. They’re gonna have some big shoes to fill, trying to find Diane’s replacement.
It is not a demotion by any means, sources have told me. She strictly could not handle the morning show hours. Actually, it shows how much KMBC wants to keep her.
LOVES DONNA
I love Donna Pittman in the morning. The chemistry of that group is the best! In my opinion the worst news reader is Krista Dubill – KSHB.
REBECCA GANNON
I’d love to see Rebecca Gannon slip into a morning or weekend anchor position. She is a clear communicator, can read and possesses a native ability to work in front of that camera. …besides having logged a bunch of on air hours in the past.
PAST GRADE SCHOOL?
“………..given how she can barely read passed grade school level..”
Good one, Nick. And YOU’RE knocking Donna for HER work???
DUSTING OFF DEMO REEL
No anchor chooses to ever step off the anchor desk to report. Sources at a station can always say an anchor turned reporter wants to “spend time with family” or “would be a better fit on the street”. All just perfumed spin.
I imagine she will be dusting off the demo reel. I would be.
RETHINK THE BANGS
Dianne is a fine anchor. She needs to rethink the bangs but otherwise
Comes across in a positive manner. What needs improvement is David
Hall’s volume. It’s not a library. Speak up. He has a great voice. Let us hear it
DUMP DONNA
Dump Donna Pittman. She is terrible!!! Can not read without error. Has zero personality and is camera “hog”. Has absolutely no intellect.
