Some of its competitors are anonymously calling “foul” on KMBC and questioning the Nielsen Ratings that have come out since the station was dropped off Time Warner Cable Monday night as a battle over fees with KMBC parent Hearst TV and Time Warner continues to drag on.
No matter what, the facts show that despite losing a significant portion of its audience the ABC affiliate is still doing fairly well in the July TV Sweeps period.
KMBC won at the 4:30 a.m. news hour and at the important 10 p.m. news slot on Thursday (7/12). In between it remained competitive during key news periods.
At 10 p.m. KMBC notched a 5.7 rating and 11 share of the audience with KSHB finishing second. Fox 4 was third and surprisingly, KCTV, was last in the time period.

So what are these anonymous competitors saying is foul? That’s the story I want to read.

What they’re saying is foul is the “highness” of KMBC’s ratings. Some of them (meaning probably some people WITHIN the stations, not so much the whole station itself) think that KMBC’s lack of presence on TWC right now, that their ratings should be a lot lower than this (even though they’re already visibly lower).

They probably dispute it some since they still lead in the mornings and in the nights, but if you ask me, that 3.9 at 5pm yesterday seems fairly fair…
