Rival KMBC and its parent Hearst recently settled its fight with Time Warner Cable and was back on its cable network on Thurday, but now it is KCTV/KSMO and its parent Meredith Corporation that are trying to work out a resolution with TWC before it goes dark at midnight on Wednesday.
KCTV has been running crawls during its programming warning TWC customers that they might not be able to get the CBS affiliate if a settlement cannot be reached. The station is providing a phone number urging TWC viewers to pressure the cable company into settling the standoff.
The contract is between Time Warner Cable and Meredith Corp., which owns 12 broadcast stations around the country.
Ironically, the TWC-KCTV dispute deadline is July 25—the final day of the July TV Sweeps period.

I think it’s pretty obvious by now that it’s Time Warner that’s starting all of this crap. KMBC was just barely back on the air before KCTV made the announcement that Time Warner was giving them trouble. I won’t doubt that Hearst and now Meredith probably -are- being greedy, but Time Warner is also notoriously hard to work with. I will never side with Time Warner in a situation like this.
Under must-carry rules, Time Warner, Comcast, or any other cable outlet may not “drop” a local station’s signal. The local station has to pull its signal from the cable outlet.
Hopefully Bounce TV and 24/7 Local News Channel is part of new deal.
Chiefs fans have to worry.
It would be an inconvenience for sure, but there ‘s always the internet!
It’s back.
