KMBC NEWS RELEASE
KMBC 9 NEWS CONTINUES TO BE
KANSAS CITY’S NEWS LEADER
KANSAS CITY, MO (November 25, 2009) Once again, more Kansas City viewers turn to KMBC 9 News to get their breaking news and weather.  With just one day remaining in the November sweeps period KMBC 9 News is beating out the competition at 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

“I am very proud of our team.  There is no one better on breaking news than the KMBC team,” said KMBC 9 News Director Sherrie Brown.  “The day the Fort Hood shooting happened, we found out within minutes that one of the wounded soldiers was from Kansas City.  The family of Keara Bono trusted KMBC and shared their story with us exclusively.”

Both KMBC 9 News at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. won their time periods by significant margins. At 5:00 KMBC 9 News finished the month with a 7.5 rating and 15 share.  That is a 56 percent advantage over the second place station.  The 6:00 news won its time slot with an 8.3/15, beating out its closest competitor by 63 percent!

KMBC 9 News at 10:00 p.m. came out ahead of the competition with a 10.1/17.  This is the 18th month in a row that this newscast has been the time period leader.  KMBC’s second half hour of late evening news on Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. scored 8.4/16, which is a higher rating and share than any of its competitors’ 10:00pm averages.

KMBC FirstNews continued to be strong and consistent throughout November, finishing the highly coveted 6:00 a.m. hour with an impressive 5.5/19.

“We continued to focus on helping people get through tough economic times, asking the tough questions on tough topics like Healthcare reform, and digging deeper on the big stories like the Mohler family investigation - a story we broke on KMBC.com,” added Brown.

“Two and a Half Men” and the newest edition to late night, “The Office,” won their time slots – beating out David Letterman and Conan O’Brian.

KMBC was also the most-watched in primetime.  ABC’s hit shows “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Dancing with the Stars” were the top three rated programs.
