SLAIN WOMAN FOUND IN CAR
Yes, those are some classics. Not too many weeks ago on The Star’s web site they were running a headline that said, as I recall: “Slain woman found dead in car.” Duh! Fortunately they noticed the problem fairly quickly and removed the word “slain” from the headline, allowing that aspect of the story to be covered in the text.
GRATEFUL FOR COPY EDITORS
These headlines demonstrate why I’m so grateful to the copy editors who’ve cleaned up my prose over the years. As amusing as these headlines are, they are also frighteningly easy to make.
